The second part of the Linen Collection, this set was shot on a beautiful slate gray background I found while prop shopping. While the images shot on wood is meant to be a classic still life with muted tones like a Dutch still life painting, these images are offset with vibrant colors and the modern cluttered chaos that is popular in today’s food blogs and editorials.

I love both sets equally and would find it difficult to choose between the two. Even though I was only allowed to submit a total of six images, I conceptualized over twenty food setups and shot ten of them altogether. (Maybe later I’ll bracket and retouch the other four images for a future blog post.)

This series was incredibly rewarding and challenging, giving me the same excitement and thrill as the days when I used to sit in my childhood bedroom and paint a still life for hours on end. While winning a photography contest is great, what I took away from the experience was how much I enjoyed this process. Photography can be a powerful medium and I can’t wait to continue shooting for future contests and submissions!
