With strawberries making their springtime comeback to the markets – I thought it would be a great time to style a test shoot about an afternoon tea complete with chocolates and strawberries. I admire the way veteran stylists are able to layer: stacked plates, soft textiles mixed with hard materials, and maximizing arrangement and flow to tell a food story. Now that I’m becoming more seasoned at the practice, styling is starting to become second nature. I’m not depending on luck but rather muscle memory. Similar to design (my other forté) after a few years of experience, you “just know” when something is good. I still have quite a way to get where I want to be in styling and art direction, but now that these shoots are becoming more fun and less time-consuming, I’m excited to do even more!
