After experiencing a back injury, I decided to stop carrying my camera around the city all the time. A large lens on a full-frame camera is heavy in its own right, but is even more cumbersome when walking around Manhattan with a strained back. (Sigh – I’m getting old)

Now that I’m capturing the city through my Instagram, I changed the monthly “In The Details” series into an “Instagram” series. I’m excited to be shooting primarily with my phone. Not having to carry that extra five to ten pounds of gear will likely free me up to shoot more, not less. I don’t think I’ll altogether stop shooting my adventures in DSLR. After all, there’s nothing like capturing New York City in high resolution.

For October: The last time I used Instagram, I had an iPhone 4 and wasn’t working in photography. Years later and armed with a brand new iPhone 6, I’m happy to be back. Opening (re-opening) an account can get a little daunting – I get so caught up in all of the available editing apps. While my studio work is relatively clean, I can’t help but stack on the filters when using Instagram. I’ll really have to work on that. For now, enjoy the beauty of fall in warm-filter glory!
